Senator Suspended from Party for Supporting Milei's Budget in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Jan. 29 (NA) -- The intervenors of the Justicialist Party of Jujuy, sent by Cristina Kirchner, today provisionally suspended the party membership of Carolina Moisés, a national senator for Federal Conviction. She is accused of "serious party misconduct" for voting in favor of the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) of the Bases Law and the 2026 Budget bill by Javier Milei. Amidst a fierce internal conflict, the intervenors Aníbal Fernández and Gustavo Menéndez decided to dissociate themselves from Moisés, as well as Rubén Rivarola and Guillermo Jenefes, for participating in the lists of other parties in the October 26 legislative elections or in the provincial elections last May. According to the Argentine News Agency, the measure affected more than 300 members for behaviors considered incompatible with party affiliation. In Moisés' case, the charge against her is related to having "actively promoted and included her own image or photograph on the ballot of the list called 'Frente Somos Más – Lista N°508', a political force foreign and electorally opposed to the Justicialist Party – Jujuy District, competing directly against it without any authorization from the competent party bodies." They also question her for having voted in favor of the RIGI in the Bases Law and the 2026 Budget, which was dealt with last December, "seriously violating the principles of party loyalty, unity of action, organizational discipline, and the subordination of individual interests to the collective project." Jenefes, former vice governor of Jujuy and former national senator, is accused of carrying out a smear campaign against the PJ's candidates through the provincial communication medium he owns. Rivarola, former president of the PJ and candidate for governor in 2023, is attributed to having participated electorally in 'Frente Primero Jujuy Avanza (List 501)' which was outside the PJ that was headed by the 'K' Leila Chaher as the main candidate. He is also not forgiven for, as president of the bloc of peronist constituent convention members, having agreed with then-governor Gerardo Morales the approval of the constitutional reform. This was the episode that detonated the intervention of the PJ of Jujuy, with the appointment of Aníbal Fernández and Gustavo Menéndez. The intervenors of the PJ Jujuy also suspended the electoral act for the renewal of authorities scheduled for next February 15 and postponed it to April, within the framework of a party normalization process.
